takes retired teacher on a trip to Liverpool
A LORRY driver picked up a retin Knutsford yesterday - a retired teacher from Knutsford.
A RETIRED teacher was taken for a ride on her birthday yesterday - in a 60ft articulated lorry.
The driver of the newly-named lorry, Knutsford, called at Anne Vaughan's home in Mereheath Park on route from Yorkshire.
There the mother of two hopped on board one of James Irlam's distinctive red lorries - prepared for a day on the road, delivering ..
"I'd asked them to pick me up at home to give the neighbours something to talk about," she said.
The xx-hour trip - organised by the Chelford-based firm - was an ambition achieved.
"This is part one of my retirement," said Anne, 60 yesterday.
Now the self-confessed fan of the James Irlam Fan Club is looking forward to flying to New York on Concorde and travelling to Bruges on the Eurostar.
"After I retired I wanted to do these things because you have to live life to the full while you can," she said.
But as for her Tuesday trip, did she want to try her hand at steering the xx-ton lorry?
No, it seemed.
"I'm frightened of driving anything bigger than my Fiesta," she said.
