Restore Walton's Victorian greenhouses

IN reply again to Councillor Black's latest letter in the Warrington GUARDIAN of January 15. I must point out that he missed the point I was making over pollution. Cars with petrol engines are very much more efficient than 10 years ago. Diesels pump out particulate, soot or whatever you want to call it. This was the reference I was making to asthma sufferers for whom this soot is of particular importance.

Councillor Black pointed out in a previous letter that cases of asthma have greatly increased! Correct! Due I believe to diesel engined vehicles amongst other things.

The poor road system in Warrington is a major contributory factor in our town to all pollution of all types pumped out by both diesel and petrol engined vehicles.

He has sidestepped the original letters regarding Milner Street very nicely and used my letters to avoid the main issue of poor road planning in Warrington.

Just over a week ago I saw the potential for a major accident due to the new traffic island constructed on Liverpool Road when a car took the outer lane heading toward town.

No other car would give way to let him into the new, one and only lane outside Crosfields. So he accelerated and hit with his front wheel the new island. Had the other motorist not braked two people would have been injured, at least.

On leaving B and Q and turning left onto Liverpool Road the view is now limited due to the new kerbs etc. So forget the pollution issue for the moment and consider the planning of the roadways in our town. Total and utter mayhem, congestion and bad planning.

Other correspondents to last week's issue also pick up the main theme which Councillor Black conveniently dropped when I dangled a diversary carrot!

This is my final correspondence on the roads issue with Councillor Black via your pages. The people of Warrington who want better access need to make the road planners aware of their concerns. If you object to speed humps on your road tell them. If you want something done about Warrington's roads tell them. Don't just put up with what is pushed at you.
