What Eric's eye spied

AN ANTIQUES Roadshow expert popped into Warrington this week to cast his expert eye over the town's treasures.

Housewives' favourite Eric Knowles was on an official visit to Warrington Museum and Art Gallery to value the collection of works. But he took time out from his busy schedule to choose his Object of the Month, a new initiative designed to highlight some of the museum's fascinating objects.

The dickie-bowed presenter was taken with several objects but finally chose a painting of Warrington from 1772 by artist Donbavard.

"Ever since I was a small boy, I have always liked to see a town as it was. I think the painting itself would probably make Michelangelo shudder from a perspective point of view but I like that the painting portrays everyday activity in the town," said Eric.

"It has a charming naivety and you can let your imagination run wild. Whoever the artist was, he did the town a great service."
