THERE'S something about a man in uniform, or so they say - and it looks like this proud Legionnaire has caught the eye of a young admirer.
Young Joseph Watson is pictured putting in a polished performance as a Roman soldier in the armour specially commissioned by Warrington Museum to form the centrepiece of their schools' project.
Joseph, aged eight, and his young admirer, Rachel Friend, also eight, are both pupils at St Alban's RC School where the new child-size uniform, complete with authentic weapons, made one of its first appearances.
Schools' Liaison Officer at the Museum Katy Cunliffe said: "The outfit is the latest addition to our schools' collection, and was funded half by the museum and half by the North West Museum Service.
"We will be developing sessions with the schools based around the armour as part of the existing Roman programme we do."
The armour has been scaled down to child size from the measurements of original items, and is perfect in every detail - right down to the sandals. It was built by the same companies used by war re-enactment societies.
Roman soldiers wearing the same gear would have been a regular sight in places like Wilderspool back in ancient times, stopping off there on their way north.
