Final warning on tax returns

THIS is your final warning - tax returns are due at the end of this month. But help is at hand.

People will face automatic fines of £100 if they hand in their returns late, warns Warrington's branch of the Inland Revenue.

But fear not because some last-minute assistance and advice on filling out self-assessment forms is available from the town's tax office staff.

Staff at the Barbauld Street offices are throwing open their doors this Saturday and Sunday especially to deal with people with queries or wishing to file returns before the January 31 deadline.

Reminders have already gone out to those liable and tax officials are waiting for the late rush.

Inland Revenue customer services manager Angela Lord said: "It can affect absolutely everyone - from pensioners and the self-employed to company employees."

Plans are being made for toys and videos for youngsters to be available so parents can pop in and discuss their finances without distraction.

The office will be open from 10am until 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
