SWEEPING SUCCESS

STREET sweeper Nigel Rowbottam received a trophy this week for keeping the highways and byways of Alsager spick and span.

Nigel works for Congleton Borough Council, and came runner-up in a contest to find Cheshire's street cleaner of the year.

Nigel works in Alsager, and won an engraved trophy and certificate from competition organisers the Tidy Britain Group.

The presentation took place on Tuesday at Ewood Park, the home of Blackburn Rovers, and Mr Rowbottam received his award from club chief executive John Williams.

He was nominated for the award by Mike Taylor, the head of commercial services at the borough council.

''The quality of Nigel's work is excellent, he is very pleasant and gets on well with the people of Alsager,'' said Mr Taylor.
