TEENAGERS FILM SCHOOL VIDEO TO COMBAT DRUGS

TEENAGERS from a Congleton high school have created a hard-hitting video to stress the dangers of experimenting with drugs.

The video is entitled Taking Part, and was put together by Year 10 pupils from Heathfield High, who are aged 14 and 15.

It features realistic role playing scenes acted out by the pupils themselves, and will be shown in schools across Cheshire.

Youngsters from Blackfirs Primary School in Congleton also worked on the video, which will be used as an interactive workshop, with each scene being followed by relevant questions to trigger discussion.

''The film was produced following extensive research to determine the levels of drug knowledge and attitudes among primary and secondary school pupils,'' said county council chairman David Newton.

Cheshire's education director David Cracknell said half of all young people were believed to experiment with drugs.

''Drugs misuse is becoming as commonplace in villages and towns of counties like Cheshire as it is in disadvantaged areas of larger inner cities,'' he said.
