RESIDENTS RALLY TO SUPPORT BURGLARY VICTIM, JOANNE

RESIDENTS sickened by the callousness of a burglary have dug deep to help the victims of the break-in.

Joanne Dolman was at the hospital bedside of her 10-month-old baby Benjamin when her home in Coronation Road, Congleton, was broken into.

Benjamin is recovering from meningococcal septicaemia, and the burglary took place while Joanne was with her son at Macclesfield Hospital.

The burglars stole Joanne's camcorder in the raid, as well as cassettes containing precious memories of Benjamin's first months.

The £2,000 haul also included jewellery, and none of the items stolen was insured.

Disgust among Joanne's neighbours and friends at the burglary prompted Bromley Farm shopkeeper Frank Holt to organise a raffle to help replace the stolen possessions.

Hundreds of people bought a total of 725 tickets in a week, raising about £150, with local residents also donating a dozen prizes for the raffle.

''People off the estate are absolutely gutted by what happened, and the amount raised shows just how kind-hearted they are,'' said Mr Holt.

Raffle prizes donated included bottles of spirits and wine, a large box of chocolates and crystal wine glasses.

The raffle draw was held on Tuesday at a regular bingo night at Bromley Farm Community Centre.
