THE average bus fare is set to rise by 15 per cent.

The move comes just weeks after services were cut as county councillors try to slash their budgets.

Cheshire's top green councillor, David Lloyd-Griffiths, said: "A number of people told us that they would accept higher fares, rather than lose services altogether.

"It should be noted that the increases will not result, if implemented, in prices widely different from other commercial fare charges existing in the county."

But there's more bad news for young bus users.

Their fares would rise from half the adult fare to three-quarters.

Cheshire's environment committee will vote on the new price structure on February 9.

In the meantime, parish councils will be given the chance to comment.
