Star student picks up a hat-trick of awards

SINGLE parent Sue Crozier, who is bringing up three children, wanted a new career to give her family a better life.

But since she started training in beauty therapy and holistics at Warrington Collegiate Institute, Sue has proved herself to be a star student and collected three awards.

She is in the beauty therapy and hairdressing department at the Collegiate's Winwick Road campus, where she has won student of the month and student of the year awards, and she has also picked up the student of the year title for the College of General and Social studies, which is part of the Collegiate.

As well as her studies, Sue goes into schools giving talks to pupils about grooming for job interviews.

Children Becky, aged 15, Lauren, aged 11 and Sam, aged nine, think they have a mum in a million. "They are really chuffed," said Sue.

"It's been hard work. Once my studies are over, I would like to go into teaching. If not, I would like to be a mobile beauty and holistic therapist. I am looking forward to earning a salary. Studying and bringing up children isn't easy but you just get on with it.

"It has never got me down. We are happy at home and it's great at the Collegiate. Everybody is willing to help you."

Sue became a mature student at the Collegiate three years ago. She has completed reflexology and aromatherapy courses with the International Institute of Health and Holistic Therapy and an NVQ level two in beauty therapy. She is now doing level three. Sue has also completed an advanced course in massage.

She is soon to start a 10 week counselling course at the Padgate Campus. After that, she will go on to do a counselling diploma and she is also doing a course in nutrition.

Sue Williams, departmental head at Winwick Road Campus, said: "She's very motivated and committed."

Sue's efforts have gone down particularly well with her eldest daughter Becky. She's following in mum's footsteps and starts a hair, beauty and holistic therapy course at the Collegiate's Winwick Road campus in September.

BEAUTY therapy and hairdressing courses at Warrington Collegiate Institute provide a blend of theoretical and practical instruction to meet the needs of the hair and beauty specialist.

There is a wide range of courses available. These include hairdressing, beauty therapy, holistic therapies, manicure, cosmetic make up, aromatherapy, reflexology, anatomy and physiology, barbering techniques, sports massage, baby massage, Indian head massage, face and body painting, nail art, health and fitness instruction, clinical sports therapy and stress management. Programmes can be studied on a full-time or flexible study basis.

The beauty therapy and hairdressing section of the college is vibrant, fun, expanding, up to date and gives the students an opportunity to learn the latest techniques.

Facilities include well equipped salons, sauna, steambath, shower and sunbed facilities, the latest in computerised stock control systems and reception areas. The programmes on offer can help students to find employment or to brush up on existing skills.
