A SUBSTANTIAL reward has been offered in the hunt for a thief who robbed a security guard in Lymm.
The guard had been delivering cash to Somerfield supermarket at The Cross at about 5.10pm on Tuesday when he was approached from behind.
The raider placed an object in the man's back. He ordered him to drop the cash box, before fleeing with it in the direction of Rectory Lane. A cash box was later recovered from the dam.
Securicor has now put up a £5,000 reward to anyone who can provide information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the thief.
Detective Constable Martin Grange said: "At this stage we cannot say if the man was armed or not. But he was distinctively dressed and carrying a black box, so he would have been extremely noticeable to passers-by.
"We'd like to speak with anyone who was in the village centre between 4.55pm and about 5.20pm and also two teenage boys who were stood at the Rectory Lane bus stop."
The man is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build with a north west accent. He was wearing a dark woollen hat, a dark waist-length 'shiny' jacket, dark jogging bottoms and a scarf concealing his face.
Officers also want to hear from people who have seen a pale or white coloured saloon car parked in Rectory Lane about the time of the offence.
Contact DC Grange on 652 222 in confidence or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
