Lower Angel plans shelved

PLANS to strip a town centre pub of historic memorabilia have been shelved by owners Allied Domecq.

The company had planned to remove all references to Warrington brewer John Walker at the Lower Angel, Buttermarket Street, as part of a extensive refurbishment.

But brewery bosses have decided to pull the plug on the renovation, which many regulars believed would have destroyed the character and atmosphere of the traditional pub.

Landlord Charles Oliver said: "It looks like the scheme will not be going ahead and things will stay as they are for the next 12 months at least."
