Simply Red could stage concert at racecourse

POP idols Simply Red could stage a huge open air concert on the outskirts of Newton-le-Willows as part of Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson's testimonial year

Lead singer Mick Hucknall - a close pal of the United supremo - is planning to star in a gig at Haydock Park racecourse, it has been reported.

United fanatic Hucknall is backing tributes to 57-year-old Ferguson, which are believed to include a show and race day at the world-famous course.

It is expected most of the estimated £3 million proceeds from the events, which might also include an all-star game between Old Trafford superstars and a world XI, will be donated to charities Ferguson already supports.
