MISTAKES COST RUGBY MEN DEAR

COMPLACENCY and too many mistakes cost Congleton's rugby men dear on Saturday as they went down 18-15 at TocH Didsbury.

TocH are in a league below Congleton, and the friendly was arranged after Congleton's league match against South Liverpool was cancelled after Liverpool withdrew from the league.

Congleton took the lead on the half hour after TocH won a scrum near their line.

A pass was played out to the fly half to clear, but Richard Berkhard was there to charge down the kick and score, although the conversion was missed.

Congleton were read the riot act at the break by coach John Robinson, and lost their hooker Dave Moss with a bang on the head.

The second half saw the home side kick a penalty, but Congleton replied with an easy try for Matt Hunter, Mark Winship again missing the conversion.

TocH were not finished, and rallied to score a converted try to give them a one-point lead.

Congleton pressed, but a stray pass went into the hands of the TocH centre, who ran the length of the field to score under the posts, a try which was converted.

Matt Smith gave Congleton hope with a try, but it was too little too late.
