CONGLETON'S Youth in Action leader Jean Squires is pictured having a well-deserved rest - in one of her retirement gifts!
The wheelbarrow in the picture was presented to Mrs Squires to mark 17 years of dedicated service to the community.
Youth in Action was formed 20 years ago as a voluntary organisation supported by Cheshire County Council, who employed Mrs Squires to co-ordinate the project.
During that time she has guided more than 1,000 people through the scheme, and has overseen many projects from craft sessions for the elderly to an out of school club and summer playscheme.
''Youth in Action has become recognised nationally as a leading example of young volunteering schemes,'' said county council chairman David Newton.
''This valuable reputation would not have been possible without the efforts of Jean and her young volunteers over the years.''
Mrs Squires, aged 56, who lives in Congleton, was presented with gardening tools to mark her retirement, and her successor will be Sally Ashworth.
