DRAMATIC IMAGES OF ANTARCTICA COME TO GAWSWORTH

TOP photographer Ben Osborne brings a series of stunning images of Antarctica to Gawsworth Village Hall this month.

Ben's illustrated talk is entitled Life in the Freezer, and tells the story behind the filming of the award-winning BBC TV series of the same name.

The talk on January 30 is part of the Rural Touring Network, which is organised by the cultural services section of Cheshire County Council.

The show starts with a sequence which simulates the journey south across the Antarctic Ocean, and continues with descriptions of the sub-Antarctic island of Georgia and its wildlife.

The second half focuses on the Antarctic continent, including impressive images of its wildlife and scenery.

''Ben Osborne is a photographer with an international reputation for his images of Antarctica,'' said a council spokesman.

''He has visited on five occasions, initially working as a biologist with the British Antarctic Survey.

''Many of the images used in the show are taken from the book of the series, for which Ben shot most of the photographs, and some of the pictures are used to illustrate advanced filming techniques that made the series so dramatic.''
