Speed check

POLICE have been conducting speed checks on Birch Lane, Stanthorne, after complaints from residents that the road is used as a rat-run.

Officers from the Congleton and Vale Royal Division, which covers Middlewich, observed drivers on the road for around two hours last Thursday morning.

Residents say vehicles using the country lane, which has a 30mph limit, sometimes travel in excess of 60mph.

A traffic police spokesman said: "We do no operate speed detectors unless the area has a problem with speeding drivers or there have been complaints from residents nearby."
