Green light for homes scheme

PLANS to build two detached houses on overgrown land in Middlewich have been granted permission by Congleton Borough Council, despite objections from neighbours.

The homes are set to be built by Curbishley Development Ltd at land in St Annes Road.

Members agreed at a planning committee meeting on Monday night to give the proposal the green light.

But residents living in Newton Heath, Middlewich, urged it to be rejected.

A spokesman from Congleton Borough Council planning department explained why some residents had objected to the application.

He said: "They say the proposal would reduce the sunlight to their gardens, which they like to relax in during the summer months. They cannot sit in their front gardens as these are very small and on a main road.

"But they do agree that something needs doing to this site, and say that there was a house there originally, but much further away from their property, and therefore not a problem."

The planning spokesman added: "However, the erection of two houses within a primarily residential area is appropriate to the form and character of the locality and, in my opinion it complies with all the applicable highways, parking, space and privacy standards."

Permission was granted at the meeting subject to the following conditions:

That the plans are amended.

Precise siting and levels to be marked out and agreed on site.

Removal of permitted development rights in respect of extensions, curtilage buildings and the formation of any additional windows or other openings in any elevation of either of the dwellings.

Satisfactory provision of garage or parking spaces and vehicle crossings for each dwelling.

The submission of approval for details of external materials.
