How to beat the big winter chill

WINSFORD and Middlewich residents are being offered handy hints to beat the winter chills.

British Gas North West claim there are simple ways to keep warm and comfortable, without spending more on fuel, during the winter months.

And they are offering a free booklet containing energy saving tips to local residents.

Some of the suggestions include:

Fixing aluminium foil behind radiators, shiny side facing radiator, to reflect heat back in.

Making sure curtains do not cover radiators.

Heating only the rooms you use and keeping doors closed to keep heat in.

Setting the timer on your central heating and hot water so it is only on when you need it.

Collette Handley, spokeswoman for British Gas North West, said: "We are strongly committed to energy efficiency as well as saving money for individuals.

"British Gas is offering their customers great savings on their electricity and we are guaranteeing our gas customers lower electricity prices than their local supplier until the year 2000."

She added: "As the cold weather sets in , many people may be worried about having difficulty paying their bills and it is important that anyone in this situation contacts us immediately."
