Gypsies leave town

GYPSIES have finally abandoned land at Town Bridge in Winsford after a three month stay.

The travellers departed last Tuesday night but left mounds of rubbish on the car park outside American Fried Chicken.

Debris discarded includes broken bottles, food cans, crisp packets, wood and clothing.

Vale Royal Borough Council has now served notice on the leaseholder to clear the site of the mess.

Some of the land is also owned by Winsford Town Council and Vale Royal, who have also agreed to clear parts of the site under their jurisdiction.

A spokesman for Vale Royal Borough Council said: "It should be cleared by the end of the week. We have served notice on the leaseholder to clear the section of land under his control and the town council and borough council will also be ensuring it is free of rubbish.

"If the leaseholder does not clear the area, we will do the work and make an appropriate charge."

The caravan-dwellers quit the site, which is leased long-term to Manchester-based businessman Raad Alamin, of their own accord.
