HALTON'S unemployed can now find a job - by simply picking up the telephone.
A new 'Dial A Job' service was launched this week to give the jobless immediate access to more than 300,000 vacancies across the UK.
Peter Baker, Cheshire North district manager said:"Employment Service Direct is an exciting and innovative approach to help our customers find work.
"The new service is in addition to the wide variety of services already available in job centres.
"Anyone currently looking for work can use it. In this area alone, we can give people access to some 1,500 jobs at any one time."
When a job seeker rings the 0845 6060234 hotline, the call will be immediately connected to a member of one of the new employment service teams.
These teams have been set up across the country to operate the new service.
Recruitment advisers have immediate access to the employment service database of jobs locally or nationally.
The computer database holds some 300,000 vacancies that employers are seeking to fill.
The new service will be available until 6pm weekdays and from 9am-1pm on Saturdays.
It is open to any unemployed people looking for work.
The Employment Service believes it will also benefit employers by helping fill their job vacancies more effectively.
