L'pool Coll 1st XV 7 Helsby 1st XV 7

HELSBY returned to league action with a tense draw.

It took a late try in the second-half by Helsby to earn a hard-worked point.

The home side had the advantage of the slope in the first-half and quickly gained the lead through a pushover try.

Despite all this pressure, the Helsby defence was excellent with some outstanding tackles by Richard Lilley.

Helsby began to look more lively in the second-half and when they won a line-out on the opposition 22, hooker Neil Cook threw to Mark Davies who caught the ball, turned and drove over the line to score under the posts, Phil Catterall converted to level the scores and leave Helsby with a shared point.

Helsby seconds lost 16-0 at home to Collegiate.
