THERE'S NO MORE LAUGHTER

A 17-YEAR-OLD schoolgirl has died from the killer brain disease meningitis - just 36 hours after developing flu-like symptoms.

Sarah Holland was sent home at lunchtime on Wednesday from Grange comprehensive. She died in hospital the following evening.

This week, headteacher David Stanley paid tribute to her dedication and commitment.

Sarah was studying for A-Levels in psychology, geography and English literature after passing nine GCSEs. She was looking forward to going to university.

Mr Stanley said: "Sarah was very hard-working, very committed and conscientous. She did her best with everything.

"She will be a great loss to the school and the community. We will miss her laughter and remember her with pride."

Sarah gave up two weeks of her summer holiday to help with a summer literacy school.

"She was always involved in things," said Mr Stanley. "If we ever had any special events, we would always approach her to read.

"She took part in a fourth year celebration and performed as Abba with two members of staff."

Sarah has attended the Grange since 1993.

Bereavement counsellors were helping her fellow sixth formers and members of staff come to terms with her sudden death.

Sarah was a fitness enthusiast.

She had only just joined the Ultimate Fitness popmobility display team after attending classes for several years.

Instructor Paula Schofield, who knew Sarah for two years, said: "She was a lovely girl, very keen. She will be missed so much.

"We just can't believe it. It's such a terrible shock."

Sarah has an older brother and sister.

Her funeral has not yet been arranged.
