Megan the moggy's taken for ride

MIDDLEWICH cat Megan is probably the luckiest pet in Cheshire after surviving more than 24 hours out in the Christmas cold - inside a car engine.

Her incredible journey began on Wednesday, December 23, when she went missing from her home in Booth Lane and her family started to panic.

Owner Anne Longshaw and her grand-daughter Amy Moore were stunned to learn that the eight-month old moggy had set up camp in the bonnet of the car of neighbour Mark Caldwell, who discovered the intruder on Christmas Eve when he experienced problems with his fan belt.

Anne said: "The cat went missing in the morning and by the afternoon I was walking around looking for her and asking neighbours to look in sheds and garages, which they did. But by Christmas Eve she was still missing and we were very worried.

"Our neighbours came round and told us they had a four-legged surprise for us. Megan had been driven from Middlewich to Crewe for a Christmas party and was left in Crewe overnight.

"She had survived the cold and frost and only had a bit of fur missing!"

However, fears resurfaced when Megan went missing again after their neighbours left her in their kitchen to go round to tell a relieved Anne the good news.

But this time the intrepid feline had only got as far as the microwave oven to shelter from the cold.

Anne added: "Since going missing she's shown little nervousness and is back to her old self, attempting to make mischief.

"But we'll have to put a long lead on her to make sure she doesn't wander off again!"
