We're too generous to immigrants

REGARDING Mr Calhoun's letter "I was disgusted at Mr Gannon's letter concerning his views on the never ending arrival of 'free loading' refugees to this country." I, for one and indeed most people I speak to when this subject is broached, agree with him entirely.

Instead of coming here, has Mr Calhoun ever considered why these people do not go to huge countries, for example Russia or China, where there are vast tracts of land uninhabited, instead of an already over populated country such as ours? Perhaps it is because there are no housing allowances, no generous handouts, etc.

Why do they cross half of Europe to get into this country? During my period of working overseas in four countries, I and other ex-pats often posed the question, why pick the UK having nothing in common, ie. ethnically, culturally and religion? Answer as above.

Once, when I was re-entering one country with no visa (a company mistake) there were no bleeding hearts and reception centres for emigrants, but I was marched at gun point, locked up for 10 hours with no food or water and marched out for the first plane out whence I came (Rome) and dumped. I was working and training their nationals at the time.

One MP years ago, expressing his concern at the relentless tide of immigration, was re-elected and doubled his majority, doesn't this convey anything?
