LAST season's GUARDIAN Cup finalists both progressed to the next round in this week's Warrington Soccer League action.
Holders Crosfields won 5-1 at Riverplate. Mark Caven, two, Ian Pickett, Steve Saunders and a 25 yard lob from substitute Craig Canning did the job while Ian Whitfield netted Riverplate's consolation effort.
Whiston Cross scored five without reply against Safeways. On the goal trail were Steve Keogh, two, Tony Holden, Terry Hibbert and Joe Meanley.
Other games in the GUARDIAN Cup saw Golborne Sports overcome Halton Borough 4-3. The visitors' consolation efforts were scored by Carl Pye, two and Mark Fitzsimons.
Sidac Social went to previously unbeaten Owens Corning and came away with a 2-1 victory. Their goal heroes were Jason Nieman and Graham Hewitt, who struck the winner in extra-time.
Three other ties also went into time added on. Fearnhead and East Leigh were deadlocked at 3-3 before East Leigh won the penalty shoot out 4-2. Johnny Brennan, two and Steve Martin netted for the unlucky losers.
A 'David Beckham' style free kick two minutes from the end of extra-time by Rylands' Mark Wilson gave his team a 3-2 victory over Spartak.
Sweat
Earlier the victors had netted through Ian Hughes and Fergus Morris with Spartak's replies coming via Andy Taylor and David Meir.
Padgate St. Oswalds also needed an extra 15 minutes each way before they beat Greenalls 4-2.
The Drinkwater Cup saw Grappenhall Sports pull off a giant killing act by overcoming Premier outfit Winwick Utd 7-3. Robert Whittaker scored four.
In the Depot Cup, Croft pulled off a surprise by winning 5-1 at previous unbeaten Crontonians. Sharp shooter David Chadwick helped himself to a hat-trick while there were one apiece from Dave Hodgeson and Geoff Risley.
Rylands Cup holders Halton Borough were made to sweat it out against Fearnhead Reserves. The last minute of extra-time saw Danny Campbell smash home a penalty to give the tie to the holders 2-1.
In the same competition one apiece from Dennis Hussey, Gary Harper, David Pickervance, Chris Cronin and Les Pilling saw Sidac Social Reserves see off Winwick Reserves 6-4.
Goal grabber of the day was Moorfields' Paul Chance who hit six in his team's 8-1 win over Lymm Rangers Reserves in the Reg Oliver Trophy. Mark Edwards banged in the other two.
There was also some league action. Moore Utd and St. Albans shared four goals in a Division One encounter. The Taylor brothers, Scott and Kris, found the target for the hosts while the visitors' replies came from Steven Jupp and Peter McWilliams.
Penketh Utd's master goal poacher Stuart Cunliffe weighed in with a brace which was added to by Gary Cooper in their 3-1 defeat of Lockers in a Division Two fixture.
James Ireland, Frank McDonald and Steve Andrews gave Tommy's Clock Face a 3-2 win over Wood Albion in a Division Three match.
A 10 goal salvo saw Moorfield third triumph 10-3 at Burtonwood Reserves. Ian Dutton led the way with three, Kevin Dowling Jnr, two, and one each came from Mike Deering, Andy Woods, Mike Bowness, Stephen Flaherty and Martin Keane.
Irlam Catholic Club Reserves hit Eagle Sports third for six. Regular marksman Phil McNulty, three, David Carlisle, two, and Jonathan Poll slotted home.
Crosfields Reserves had a 4-0 success at Monk Sports Reserves thanks to Tom Milow, two, Wayne Green and Mark Stanley.
