RSPCA gets its message across

WARRINGTON people appear to be getting the message about not giving pets as Christmas presents.

The RSPCA office on Slutchers Lane reported no new arrivals over the festive season.

Manager Chris Walkden said: "We have had absolutely nothing in at all. In fact, for the past few years in Warrington there hasn't been a problem at Christmas time."

The Cats Protection League reported being overrun with felines - but not because of the time of year.

A spokesman said: "We are always full, in fact we have a waiting list of over 100."

But she added that the problem was not due to unwanted presents but simply because cat owners don't get their animals neutered.

She added: "We have to turn people away all the time but usually give them telephone numbers of other organisations which may be able to help.

"We don't re-home any of our animals during the Christmas period because we don't want them to be given as pets."
