RESTAURANT EXTENSION GETS THE GO-AHEAD

INDIAN restaurant owner Anam Islam is set to create a £600,000 extension to his Congleton business.

Mr Islam owns The Taste of Raj restaurant in Lawton Street, which opened about 18 months ago following a £450,000 refurbishment.

He has now been given the go-ahead to extend the restaurant into premises next door, currently home to Congleton Pet Stores.

The extension is due to feature a glass roof, and the restaurant entrance is due to be moved from its current position as part of the scheme.

It is scheduled to open by the summer, and will create between 10 and 14 new jobs.

Councillors agreed to the extension, on condition the new part of the business opened between 9am and 11.30pm daily, the same hours as the existing restaurant.

Congleton Civic and Environmental Society said it was not advisable to add to those restaurants and takeaways already in Lawton Street.

Borough planning chief Geoff Allen said the scheme was in accordance with policies in the Local Plan, and there were no planning considerations to justify refusing the application.
