CONGLETON DUMPED OUT OF VASE

HEATON Moor turned the form book on its head at the weekend to dump Congleton out of the Tetley Vase.

Congleton were confident of victory against a side they had beaten in recent matches, but went down 13-5 in their fifth round clash.

As in previous away games Congleton failed to find any rhythm in the forward drives, and the game was littered with errors from both sides.

Heaton Moor broke the deadlock after Congleton conceded a penalty in a ruck, which was kicked by the home side's fly half.

Congleton had the chance to take the lead, but two kickable penalties went begging, and Heaton Moor went in at the break leading 10-0 after scoring a converted try against the run of play.

Congleton fought back when Darren Cashmore crashed over for what the away supporters hoped was the first of a winning series of scores.

However it was not to be, Congleton missed two more penalties, and Heaton Moor made the game safe with a penalty of their own.
