Dr MICHAEL MURPHY Dr Michael Murphy died peacefully at home in his sleep on 11th April 2018 aged 74 years. Michael was born and brought up in Warrington and prior to his retirement he served as Parish Priest at St Simon and St Judes RC Church in Streatham Hill London for 23 years. Michael was a proud Warringtonian and following his return to Warrington, he involved himself in many aspects of the life of the town. He was secretary of Warrington Arts Council, a member of the Civic Society, and an active member of Warrington North Labour Party. Michael did a great deal to promote arts and culture in the town, and was instrumental in organising a number of Multi Cultural Events to promote understanding between communities and develop community cohesion. Michaels funeral was held in St Georges Cathedral Southwark in London on 23rd May 2018, following which his body was cremated. His ashes will be returned to St Mary's Church Buttermarket St Warrington on Monday 25th June 2018 where a sung Requiem Latin Mass will held in his honour commencing at 12.10pm. All family and friends of Michael are invited to attend.
