CONCERNS over the allocation of high school places in the town have been raised by parents following reports of an administrative problem with the system.

Earlier this year, the council was forced to write to parents to ask if they accept the place offered for their child after the council was unable to access the online responses.

This sparked concern that there would be no record of parents who have already confirmed their child’s place.

But the council has dismissed claims that there have been any problems caused for pupils starting high school in September.

A council spokesman said: “There were some minor issues with the online software earlier in the year but alternative arrangements were quickly applied to reduce the impact on the school admissions process or the applicants.

“Due to issues encountered with the software, the council was unable to access the online responses so wrote to all parents and carers at the end of March asking them to accept or refuse the place either by email or telephone.

“This has not caused any problems in relation to the offers of school places and the software provider has confirmed that this issue has been resolved for next academic year.”
