CONTROVERSIAL plans to build an underground garage on a former airfield site in Appleton are to rumble on.

The blueprints to turn the land on the former Stretton Airfield site into a car storage facility with space for 118 cars will now be decided later this year.

The council’s development control committee were expected to make a decision on the application on Thursday but decided to push it back after some of the reports had not been completed.

Plans to build the garage also include blueprints to erect a private office building and a security lodge.

The construction of an access road from the former airfield runway to the proposed development and a 15 space external car park is also included in the final plans.

It has been claimed by the applicant, Hensmill Property, that the proposed development ’will create a safe and secure environment’ and will deter fly-tipping, vandalism and ant-social behaviour from taking place on the land.

But neighbouring residents have raised concerns about the increased traffic which will travel through Appleton Thorn, noise pollution and decreased property values in the area as a result of the building work.

It has also been alleged that it is an unnecessary development on greenbelt area
Appleton Parish Council, Antrobus Parish Council and High Legh Parish Council also object to the proposed plans.

Oh ok, for the residents then I propose a drug rehabilitation unit and a large detention center for illegals.
