CHESHIRE Fire and police have joined forces to help make Cheshire’s roads safer.

The services have officially formalised the partnership by signing a ‘Memorandum of understanding’ which they say will ‘strengthen and support’ council’s road safety plans.

The joint venture was officially launched during this week’s UK Road Safety Week which will see firefighters and police working across the town to get road safety messages across to all road users.

Guy Hindle, Cheshire police assistant chief constable, said: “Cheshire Police officers deal with the consequences of road traffic collisions on a daily basis.

“We have been working together with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for several years to improve road safety, and I believe the reduction in the number of road casualties we have seen shows the effectiveness of our partnership work.

“The new memorandum of understanding between us will help to further strengthen this partnership and make the county’s roads even safer.”

During this week Birchwood firefighters will be talking to students at Warrington University on Wednesday while Warrington firefighters will be giving out safety advice at Decathlon from 8.30am on Saturday.

On June 16, Stockton Heath firefighters will be part of the Walking With Heroes partnership, which includes fire, police, ambulance and army personnel walking children to school, starting at the Spar shop in Thelwall at 8am.
